Tamra Cherubin, simply known as Tamra, is an R&B/soul vocalist and songwriter. She was born and raised in Rochester, NY. Tamra began singing gospel music as a young girl in the church, and at an early age people recognized that she had an amazing gift. As she grew up, she continued to sing in the church and for fun, she would serenade her family and friends with her favorite songs.

Thanks to her parents, her influences and inspiration came from some of their favorite artists such as Gladys Knight, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Prince and Janet Jackson. Janet’s unmatched ability to captivate and entertain audiences around the world inspired Tamra to want to perform.

In high school, Tamra attended The School of The Arts in Rochester, NY, where she ultimately rounded out her artistic abilities in both drama (major) and singing.

In 2010, Tamra started a band called Forward Movement. With a New Year’s resolution and the support of her students, Tamra formed this full band in mid-January 2010, becoming one of Rochester, NY’s most popular and inspirational funk, reggae and neo-soul groups. Currently, Tamra performs more as a solo artist, singing more of her original songs. While her original musical favorites have not changed; she is further inspired by artists, such as India.Arie and Janelle Monae. Her roots are definitely in soul music but with a revolutionary spirit and strong vocals. She often incorporates “rock flair” to her style.

Tamra has performed throughout Upstate NY, amazing audiences and touching many with her soulful voice. Tamra’s  performances included the Give 1 Project’s: Women’s Empowerment Conference in Dakar, Senegal, Funkadelic Studios in New York, New York, ‘Love. Music. Life.’ ‘Black Girls Roc’ Awards Ceremony.

All of that work won her the Roc Award for Best R&B Female Vocalist.

Tamra has opened up for national recording artist, Mali Music, which was an amazing experience for her.

Tamra Debut EP ” Big Hair” was produced by Brandon “B-Will” Williams and  John Fossit. The highly anticipated  project was  released spring of 2016.

Tamra believes in speaking life and love with her music. Her original songs have meaning and purpose and her performances are always done with immense passion. It is very important to her that the songs she writes or sings are authentic and promotes all things positive. She often states that singing is more than just having a nice voice; it’s about the message you are sending to your audience. Ultimately, music is Tamra’s ministry – her way to bring God concepts to everyday people.

Humbled by her musical gifts, Tamra lives by the mantra, “No ego, just art.”
